
For many pregnant women and their families, the postpartum period should be a joyous time to look forward to welcoming the arrival of the new baby. However, women may be at higher risk for emotional problems in the period following childbirth for a variety of reasons, including Hormonal changes, Change of roles, The challenges of caring for a baby, and Family issues, etc. Postpartum emotional problems can be roughly divided into the following three categories, like postpartum depression, postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. The more serious and common ones are postpartum depression.
Postpartum depression is a common health problem, with a global prevalence of postpartum depression ranging from 13% to 19%. In Hong Kong, about 1 in 10 women experience postpartum depression. Besides experiencing the change of hormonal after having a baby, they also experience the change of physical, emotional, and social. These changes increase the risk of diagnosing postpartum depression.
Most of parents are facing a wide range of pressure when they are taking care of a newborn baby. In fact, they are anxious about the sudden infant death syndrome, the baby dying from choking milk, and suffocation under a blanket, etc. These kinds of pressure would bring a lot of significant effects on parents, to let them stay vigilant all the time due to their anxiety about the baby, which includes,
- Keeping their eyes on the newborn baby all the time
- Reducing the sleeping quality cause they keep checking to ensure the baby sleeps safely
- Feeling guilty about parenting
Some research in the United States points out that parenthood is worse than divorce, unemployment, or even the death of a partner. In Taiwan, a father has committed suicide cause he felt guilty after his 6 months old daughter die in suffocation. Therefore, parenting brings a lot of pressure on parents. Nowadays, technical development is rapid. Baby monitoring becomes the “savior” of the parents. It not only can ensure the safety of the baby by monitoring them but also relieve the pressure on the parents.

Parenting is supposedly a blessed moment. However, more and more parents suffer from the pressure of it and turn into postpartum depression. Certainly, worrying about their children is unavoidable as a parent. Instead of trapping yourself in a loop of stress and anxiety, why not try using some new technological gadgets?
